Refugee Services
Refugee Services
The National Resettlement program with Catholic Charities is currently paused. Current refugee services include referrals for medical care, acculturation, referrals for ESL (English-as-a-second-language) classes, school, refugee support services, job development and other services as needed.
JOB PLACEMENT SERVICES
The agency has a contract with the state of Indiana to provide job training and placement services for all refugees coming to the state. Services are provided to those refugees resettled by the agency and those resettled by other voluntary agencies within five years of arrival in the United States. Job placement is also offered to those who have been granted asylum. Services include job readiness assessment, assistance with résumé writing and the interview process, job recruitment, job placement, job retention, and training and referrals.
REFUGEE HEALTH SERVICES
The agency has a contract with the state of Indiana to coordinate health screenings and other health services for refugees. This service ensures that eligible refugees are screened for contagious or chronic diseases and receive referrals for appropriate follow-up care. Culturally sensitive and interpretation and translation services are also provided for non-English-speaking refugees.
HOMEWORK HELP
Catholic Charities’ Homework Help, formerly known as the Neighborhood Action Center, provides homework assistance to the children of Burmese refugees at Autumn Woods Apartments. Through the support of staff and volunteers, services provided to the refugee children enhance their adjustment within their school setting and community. As a service to their parents, English-as-a-second-language (ESL) programming is also offered two days per week.
