Community Sponsorship Group
Looking for a meaningful way to help a refugee in northern Indiana, but don’t know where to start?
You can help through our Community Sponsorship program.
As the only resettlement agency north of Indianapolis, we resettle ~200 individuals each year, but we need the community’s help in mentorship, role modeling, and cultural orientation.
What is Community Sponsorship?
Since 1975, Catholic Charities has resettled refugees from 20+ countries. We are the only resettlement agency in northern Indiana. Working with community organizations, we effectively deliver the core services required for arriving refugees, including: housing, transportation, health screenings, ESL classes, cultural orientation, job placement, and education. In addition to these services, the goal of the resettlement program is to develop a self-sufficiency plan with the family and facilitate successful community integration.
Volunteers bring a wide range of skill sets, experience, and their own networks to find and furnish housing, help refugees land their first job, or adapt to school.
What does a Community Sponsorship Group have to do?
Groups may be asked to help the family in a number of ways during the first 90 days, including:
Provide mentoring to the family for 12 months
Aid with transportation needs
Help source appropriate housing
Furnish the home
Provide a community orientation
Help improve English skills
