Mental Health Services Overview
Since 2015, Catholic Charities has been providing faith-based mental health support to parishioners across the diocese. Our services are uniquely Catholic-inspired and have a three pronged approach:
Providing faith-based in-person and telehealth counseling sessions, counselors are available for individuals, families, and/or couples in English and Spanish.
Identifying that many students go home to families living in chronic stress, we provide in-school therapy for the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students who would otherwise lack transportation and financial means for treatment.
DIOCESAN MENTAL HEALTH MINISTRIES:
Catholic Mental Health Ministry in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend supports individuals living with mental illness and their loved ones through a Catholic, compassionate, and community-based approach. Rooted in parish life, the ministry offers educational events, spiritual accompaniment, and resources and advocacy to promote healing and reduce stigma.
Catholic Charities bridges a critical gap in mental health care by reaching those who feel isolated or unsure if the Church is a safe place for emotional support. This ministry creates welcoming spaces within parishes to accompany those in need.
In addition to training newly formed mental health ministry teams, Dr. Melanie Williams, Psy.D., Associate Clinical Director and Diocesan Mental Health Liaison, leads presentations and trainings on mental health topics. She also provides consultation for priests in our diocese and individualized referral services for their parishioners, helping communities respond with understanding and care.
The ministry also partners with the Diocesan Hispanic Ministry to offer culturally sensitive outreach and Spanish-speaking therapy groups, ensuring underserved communities receive the support they deserve.
Hope to Healing Appeal
Catholic Charities' Hope to Healing Counseling provides faith-based mental health services to schools, parishes, and families in our diocese. With thousands in our community facing mental health challenges, this program offers uniquely Catholic care. Last year, 832 individuals received important healthcare for their mind.
